Last week, I had the honor of being the juror for the Louisiana Tech School of Design Annual Student Show. The task was made difficult by all the wonderful work that was submitted. I was happy to recognize the following students with awards:

Along with acting as juror for the exhibition, I was asked to visit MFA candidate studios, and to present an informative lecture regarding professional practices to the whole of the school of design. Visiting the grad studios was a great experience. It was really exciting to see the intelligent and engaging work that these artists are producing. I hope my feedback and critique was beneficial to each of them. I look forward to seeing their careers flourish after graduate school. LIkewise, I hope the the information and advice that I presented will be helpful once they set out to establish their professional artistic careers.
On Wednesday of last week I was notified that my painting “all the while working himself tighter into life’s snare” (below) had been chosen for a Director’s Award at the First LaGrange Southeast Regional Exhibition. The painting will be featured in a catalogue of other award winners from the exhibition. I look forward to receiving my copy.
This Saturday, March 5th, I’ll be participating in TEDxLSU. I will be leading one of the four teams of artists. Each team will have a professional artist, an LSU student artist, and an LSMSA student artist. Teams will take turns working together to create a visual representation of each Ted Talk using a variety of drawing & painting techniques. It’s going to be cool, and I’ll be sure to post images soon.
