a new batch of work!

A new batch of work is now on view in New Orleans. All twenty-nine paintings in the “un” series were seen on Saturday at Graphite Gallery for the first time. The opening was a great success, with several selling the opening night. The series started with the image “unsober,” and it’s been fun playing around with grammatically incorrect uses of “un” while adding some new imagery to my existing visual lexicon. stuck staring at your walls?

I hope all of you are safe and healthy. If you’re in a similar situation as me, you’ve been spending a lot more time inside. All of this time inside has increased my appreciation for the artwork my wife and I have collected over the years. Each one of these objects has eased the anxiety of social distancing, and given my brain other places to visit and wander while we wait for the curve to flatten. I feel fortunate to have built a collection with a wife that loves art more than I do, a daughter that loves to make art, and friends involved in all sorts of creative avenues.

While sequestered, I’ve been able to finish one large painting and prepare substrates for several more. Here is the most recently completed work:

I’m pleased to inform you that two interviews about my work come out in October!

Lauren Heffker has written a wonderful article about my work for Country Roads Magazine. Lauren was a pleasure to talk to, and the article is very well written and quite complimentary. You can read the article at the link above if you aren’t in their area of distribution. They even chose one of my paintings for the cover!

I also get to be on t.v.! I will be included in a segment of LPB Art Rocks! hosted by Country Roads publisher James Fox-Smith. Dorothy Kendrick and Rex Fortenberry were great to work with for the filming. The episode will air Friday, October 4th at 8:30pm, and Saturday, October 5th at 5:30 across the LPB network.

It’s always a good time to visit the Masur Museum if you can, and until August 17 you’ll have the opportunity to see their exhibition Our Story: Over 50 Years of Collecting. It’s an exhibition of highlights from their permanent collection, including my piece “a man who invents himself needs someone to believe in him.”

let’s use our words – The Art of Joshua Chambers

“let’s use our words” exhibition by Critical MASS 6 Visual Best of Show Artist Joshua Chambers in MainSpace @artspace. This exhibition from the top visual artist chosen from hundreds across ten Northwest Louisiana parishes will include large-scale paintings on panels and a collection of 7.5” x 9” pieces each illuminating a different letter of our popular and familiar ABCs.

 

Don’t Look Away – The Poetry of Katie Bickham

“Don’t Look Away” exhibition by Critical MASS 6 Literary Best of Show Artist Katie Bickham on the Mezzanine at artspace. This exhibition will feature five never-before-seen poems by Bickham displayed alongside illustrated representations commissioned by Bickham from Northwest Louisiana Artists Jazmin Jernigan, Kelly McDade, Lilly Thompson, Susan Abney and Paige Powell.

 

Collector’s Eye Exhibition

This exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the collectible art of several who collect from locals across Northwest Louisiana. A few of the artists to be featured include Christine Bailey, Mark Burt, Marilyn Couch, Bertha Harris, Ron Smith, and Mike Torma. The work being shown exemplifies the high caliber of Art being produced across this 10-Parish region and available to anyone interested in becoming a collector.
